Finally Free: DNA Testing Has Just Cleared This Man Who Wrongfully Spent 25 Long Years In Prison

Darryl Pinkins spent a long, hard 25 years in jail for a very serious rape charge. He was sentenced in 1991 for allegedly dragging a woman into a car and abusing her. He plead innocent, but the jury sided against him. However, after those 25 years, he was proven innocent and was finally able to get some redemption. After a series of DNA tests, it was scientifically proven that Pinkins was not the accuser, despite the strong and steady accusations.

DNA testing wasn’t introduced into the court systems until long after 1991, and even to this day many are still ignored by the jury. However, every once and while, the evidence is so strong that there is just no contesting it. That was the exact thing that happened with this case. The proof, which was brought to light thanks to the Indian Innocence Project, was just that solid. Once the evidence was introduced, it only took 3 days for Pinkins to get his freedom.

His 24-year-old son, who was born after he went to jail, was there to welcome him home. He may have missed all those big moments in his son’s life, and he surely dealt with hardships within the Lake County correctional facility, but none of that was apparent on his joyful face the day he got let out.

He’s Ready To Start Anew!

“It feels like this day was – was meant to be. And I know it was,” Pinkins told reporters. “There was a crack in the system. It does exist, and I’m not the only one within this situation that’s going through this. It’s people that are not fortunate enough to get the team that I have behind me.”
